What does an EV charger permit cost?
Everyone quotes “$45 to $800”, which is true and useless. The permit is issued by a specific authority with a published fee schedule, and the number you will actually pay depends on which side of a city line your house sits on.

What the permit buys you
An inspection, and a record. The record matters more than most homeowners expect: it is what an insurer asks for after a fire, and what a buyer’s inspector looks for at sale. A 60 A circuit installed without a permit is a defect on a disclosure form.
Most jurisdictions treat a home charger as an electrical trade permit with no plan review, which is why the fee sits in the low hundreds rather than the low thousands. The electrician normally pulls it. Confirm that they are, in writing, before the work starts.
